One thing I love to do is make playlists. One of my favorites is a playlist packed with self-love songs to help me cultivate self-love and dance my heart out.

When I was younger, I would create playlists, burn songs onto CDs for my friends, and decorate the cover of the CD case and that was practically my love language. Did anyone else do that? With today’s technology, it is faster and easier to make playlists, including a much-needed self-love playlist.
Music makes everything better. The power of an upbeat song to help me smile, dance, and feel better about myself is unmatched. That is how this playlist came to be. Life can be hard and heavy, but putting on my headphones and dancing around, dancing in the shower, or jamming out to this playlist in the car as the weather starts to get warmer can help life feel a little lighter. And I know this playlist will help you feel better too!

1. Treat Myself – Meghan Trainer
Meghan Trainer has such a fabulous way of making us feel amazing and beautiful. Plus, in self-love, it is always important to be our own cheerleader and to treat ourselves because it is a lot of work!
2. Love (Sweet Love) – Little Mix
This song is practically the definition of self-love. As someone who is a natural caregiver for others, this is a great reminder to show yourself some love. The acoustic version of this song is also great, in my humble opinion.

3. Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself – Jess Glynne
This song came into my life when I was very much in the depths of my anxiety and depression. I had been listening to other Jess Glynne songs, and this one came on. I tend to put too much pressure on myself, so it felt like she sang it directly to me. You can’t help but feel better after listening to this song. Don’t be so hard on yourself, take a breath, show yourself a little compassion, and dance your heart out.
4. Never Gonna Not Dance Again – P!nk
Even when life sucks, we’re never gonna not to dance again. Nothing or no one can take that away from us. This song is for when you need to dance your heart out and let the rest of the world melt away for a little while.

I honestly think the first time I heard this song was when Betty was in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. While being great to dance to, this song is about loving yourself, choosing yourself, and not letting anyone put out your fire.

8. About Damn Time – Lizzo (Purple Disco Machine remix)
I randomly discovered this remix of this song when I looked up a Pride playlist because I was getting ready to go to the Pride Parade and Festival. This remix is a little more upbeat and just makes me think of dancing at a disco roller rink and I love it so much! Plus, Lizzo has her fabulous way of making us all feel like the best versions of ourselves.
9. Whole Lotta Woman – Kelly Clarkson
Not going to lie, this song makes me feel like such a badass. I’m someone with some weight and curves to her, so this song helps me embrace and love every part of me inside and out.
10. GORGEOUS – Olivia Knox
This one is for when you’re feeling yourself, feeling gorgeous, and loving yourself. I feel like this one in particular is for when you’re alone in your room with your headphones on and dancing around and having fun with a huge smile on your face.
11. Damn It Feels Good to Be Me – Andy Grammer
You cannot go wrong with Andy Grammer when trying to cultivate self-love. This one is just the perfect vibe for self-acceptance while jamming out.
12. Into My Body – UPSAHL
I love that there’s more and more music from people who understand the struggles of mental health while also being upbeat and something to dance to. All we want in life is to feel like ourselves again and have some serotonin.
13. W.I.T.C.H. – Devon Cole
As mentioned, I love to make playlists. I discovered this gem when creating a Halloween-themed playlist last October. Though, it is absolutely fitting for a self-love playlist any time of the year.

Not going to lie, this one is for when you’re done with any bullshit and just need to start a new chapter in your life. Don’t get me wrong, being sad is important and has its place. However, sometimes you just need a reminder to pull yourself out of it and just be a bad bitch.
19. Decide to Be Happy – MisterWives
I randomly discovered this song while going through one of my close friends’ Spotify playlists. I’m so grateful I did. Anyone who identifies as a woman needs to listen to this song at least once in their life. Scratch that, everyone should listen to this song. You know that feeling when you’ve felt off for so long, but then a song comes on and you move your body and it just feels good to dance? This song encapsulates that feeling perfectly. “Happiness ain’t something you sit back, and you wait for…feels so good to dance again with my emotions…” I love that she includes the emotions.
