I created a Cowgirls playlist on Spotify when my boyfriend and I decided to vacation in Nashville, Tennessee in 2021. We absolutely loved it, and highly recommend it! And from that playlist, I chose the best songs that focused on self-love and self-empowerment.
This playlist is a mixture of ’90s country to today’s country songs. This playlist stems from focusing more on self-love, self-acceptance, and resilience.
There is something about singing and dancing to country music that just hits differently. Can anyone else relate?
I have no doubt you will jam out, dance, and sing to these incredible country songs. They’ve all touched my heart in some way, I know they’ll touch your heart too.
The 33 Best Self-Love Country Songs
I’ve put the songs in the order of how I would listen to the playlist. I love curating playlists and going a certain vibe and story along the way. That being said, you do you cowgirl.
Here are the Bose headphones I use and LOVE! They’re noise-canceling, comfortable, and perfect for dancing your heart out too!
Here is the speaker I use and LOVE! It is a GREAT price, has great sound quality, is Bluetooth, and you can choose from so many amazing colors!
**Please note, the playlist on the corresponding Spotify link may have more songs on it than this original post. Songs may be added to the playlist as they are discovered.**
1. I CAN’T HELP MYSELF – Kelsea Ballerini
This song was the inspiration to start creating self-love playlists.
I listened to this song SO many times when I discovered it. I just want to dance around when I hear this song, and it makes me feel good. I know it will do the same for you.
But also, I struggle with feeling like I could always do more or do better, and Kelsea Ballerini explains that you try your best, but sometimes you just can’t help yourself. And there is no shame in that!

2. America’s Sweetheart – Elle King
Y’all, I was recently watching Ginny & Georgie on Netflix (great show, recommend), and this song came on. I was astonished that I had never heard this song before then. It is AMAZING!
Elle King does an immaculate job of sharing her flaws, imperfections, and pressures for anyone who identifies as a woman. While simultaneously owning every bit of herself, celebrating it, and telling the world that we may all be imperfect, but that’s okay.
You cannot help but embrace yourself completely while dancing and singing to this song. Need a pick-me-up? Listen to this song!
3. Keep Up – RaeLynn
There is just something about this song that I love.
I wouldn’t even consider myself a Southern girl, but I can’t help but feel like such a badass Southern Belle Country girl every time I hear this song!
This song is also such a great representation of the impact country songs can have. RaeLynn celebrates how amazing women and country girls are, their strength, and that we can be as girly and masculine as we want to and embrace how badass we are.

4. It Didn’t – Madeline Merlo
It’s almost ridiculous how many times I’ve listened to this song. It hits the spot every single time.
If you have experienced heartbreak and hardships, this song is relatable lol.
But it also reminds us that we are resilient. There are a lot of things we thought might kill us, but we’re still here to fight and be our beautifully broken selves.
5. Road Less Traveled – Lauren Alaina
Lauren Alaina writes several wonderful self-love-focused country songs. More are included later in this list.
You will never know your bravery, strength, and true self until you take your own path in life. It can be incredibly hard, but self-love comes from trusting yourself, choosing yourself, and showing up for yourself even when nobody else does.
6. Man! I Feel Like a Woman! – Shania Twain
I feel like the addition of this song is obvious. It may be cliché, but I feel like it would be an insult to Shania Twain herself if I didn’t include it on this list. It is also easily one of the most iconic country songs to ever exist.

7. Ladies in the 90’s – Lauren Alaina
Anyone who grew up in the late 90’s and early 2000’s can’t help but relate to this song. I think about those times growing up, dressing up in ridiculous clothes and make-up, and singing and dancing to all these songs in my room and not having a care in the world.
This song is an important reminder to channel the confidence of not only those singers, but that little kid who wasn’t afraid to be themselves.
8. Up! – Shania Twain
I’m sure we can all relate to this song one way or another. You know those days when it seems like every single thing goes wrong, and you’ve practically hit bottom? This is the song for you! “There’s nowhere but up from here!”

From Shania Twain’s latest album, this song reminds us that we are queens and to claim our self-worth, because nobody can take that from us.

This song is for the girls who have lived and loved in many stages of life and womanhood.

This song fills me with hope every time I hear it. So many outside factors will try and stop us or not believe in us, but we really can do amazing things.
13. Settlin’ – Sugarland
This one is for anyone who doesn’t want to settle in life. In a rut or like you’ve lost yourself? Listen to this song.
Life can be messy and hard, but we don’t have to settle for anything less than what we want and deserve. This life is ours to make, and that’s a really good reminder for all of us.

14. Doin’ Fine – Lauren Alaina
If you’re feeling low, listening to this song will sincerely help. Everyone is broken. We all go through so much in life, but we don’t have to be okay all the time. It’s okay just to be “fine” because you’re still here and trying your best.
Coming from someone with depression, this song reminds me that my dark days won’t last forever, there will be a time when I will be doin’ fine.
15. GIRL – Maren Morris
I first heard this song when it came on the radio when I was driving from work to my first tiny apartment, and the instant I got home I knew I had to listen to the rest of the album.
My love for Maren Morris undoubtedly started with this song and has helped me during some low points in my life.
We don’t need to put each other down, and we do not have to endure anything in life that we don’t want to. “Everything’s gonna be okay.”

17. Pretty Bitchin’ – Miranda Lambert
Life can be weird, but it can also be pretty great if you let it. Gratitude is powerful and really can change your perspective.
18. One Way Ticket (Because I Can) – LeAnn Rimes
Undoubtedly a classic, this song fulfills all the needs of trying again, trying new things, and having a new adventure, simply because we can.
My anxiety and depression can prevent me from feeling like I can do certain things, but this song reminds me that there are a lot of things in this life worth trying and doing and the only reason I truly need to do it is because I can. Plus, there’s a lot of life to live, we just have to go out there and do it.
19. Something More – Sugarland
This song reminds me that regardless of what my thoughts and depression tell me, I am not stuck in my life.
If I’m truly unhappy with my life, I have the power to change it, and so do you. Especially with work. It is not worth it to stay in a toxic work environment, trust me!

20. Wild One – Faith Hill
I always support a song where a woman is being exactly who and what she wants to be in life.
21. Born to Fly – Sara Evans
Honestly, the lyrics say it best, “…how do you keep your feet on the ground, when you were born to fly…”
There are expectations and limitations put on us by several people in our lives, as well as societal pressures.
But for the dreamers like us, we can’t let anyone hold us back from what we are meant to do and create in our lives.
22. Dime Store Cowgirl – Kacey Musgraves
Easily my favorite Kacey Musgraves song. She simply accepts herself as she is, and is proud of it. She may be a dime store cowgirl, but there is no shame in that.

23. XXX’s and OOO’s (An American Girl) – Trisha Yearwood
I honestly love Trisha Yearwood so much, I knew I had to include this classic country song in this list. Also, a random side note, I love her show on The Food Network, Trisha’s Southern Kitchen.
I feel like this song perfectly describes when you’re first becoming an adult in your early 20’s, trying to learn and navigate so many things and just trying to make it in the world.
24. Y’all Means All (From Season 6 of Queer Eye) – Miranda Lambert
Queer Eye is undeniably amazing and helps us all cultivate self-love in our own lives, as well as their hero’s lives.
We may be different, have gone through struggles, and still figuring ourselves out. But we all deserve to be here, to live our truth, and be accepted.
25. I’m Alright – Jo Dee Messina
Another amazing classic. We make so many choices in our lives, and we may not be exactly where we pictured, but you have to take in the positives of life when you can and be grateful for where you are in this moment.

26. I Keep Looking – Sara Evans
I relate to this song quite a bit. I tend to constantly search and try for something in life that will supposedly make my life better or easier. But once I get it, that’s not always the case.

Just live life the way you want to. It is impossible to please everyone so you might as well just do whatever the f**k you want. Life is too short, do what makes you happy.
29. Second Wind – Maren Morris
When people undoubtedly treat you like crap, say things about you, or underestimate you, this song is exactly what you need in your life. They may try to break us down and belittle us, but the joke is on them. We’re still here, working on ourselves, and about to “catch [our] second wind”.
Additionally, if you need to remember your power and resilience, listen to this song. Trust me.

30. Getting Good – Lauren Alaina
We all think that once we have the right car, a big house, and enough money it will magically solve all of our problems. But that doesn’t always happen. It’s important to enjoy what we have right now, be mindful, and embrace our life because happiness does not come from material things.
Lauren Alaina also has a book titled Getting Good at Being You: Learning to Love Who God Made You to Be, which I highly recommend! It’s relatable and has actual questions and prompts to do and work on after each chapter. Additionally, it felt like the first self-help-focused book geared towards young women in their 20s.
31. Humble Quest – Maren Morris
Self-discovery is so powerful. Finding your voice, learning your boundaries, and advocating for yourself can be scary, but it is so important. And it is a journey because it can take a lot of time and trial and error.
