We all need a reset day here and again. We must take care of ourselves to live a fulfilled and enjoyable life.

Maybe you enjoy watching the WNBA, get engrossed in the game, and talk to the TV as if the athletes can actually hear you. Maybe cleaning for 3 hours with your booty-shaking music blasting without interruptions helps you feel like you have your life together.

Regardless of your choice, do what is right for you. Below are some ideas of what to do on your reset day for some inspiration.

Making yourself a priority is not selfish, it’s necessary.

With these tips, tricks, and ideas, I know you will have a successful reset day.

Tip #1: Don’t Let Distractions Get in Your Way of a Genuine Reset

First and foremost, don’t let distractions and activities get in the way of a genuine reset. Although they’re helpful and important, don’t let what you choose to do morph into a chore or a stressful to-do list.

The last thing we want on our reset day is loading it with too many things, and then still feeling exhausted instead of recharged and rested.

Yes, these things are here to help you slow down, and connect to your body. But don’t let them get in the way of genuinely filling your cup.

We all can be sucked into the vortex of trying the 20 different things we think we’re “supposed” to do on a self-care or reset day, thinking it’s going to magically make us feel better and solve all of our problems. As amazing as that would be, it’s not the activity or task that helps us feel better.

Slowing down, connecting with ourselves, getting out of our thoughts, resting, smiling, having fun, and soothing our mind, body, and heart help us successfully recharge our batteries. The activities we choose to do are merely a tool to help steer us in that direction.

Tip#2: Sloooowwwwww Down 🦥

As mentioned in the previous tip, a reset day is all about slowing down.

Moreover, slow down and be mindful throughout your reset day.

Life can throw you in a million directions, juggling multiple things at a time, and requires us to go a million miles a minute.

Try not to rush through your day and pressure yourself to do too many things and practice mindfulness during each activity and the transitions of your day between different activities.

Tip #3: Instead of Leading with Your Head, Lead with Your Heart ❤️

When we start doing things throughout our day it’s easy to go into auto-pilot. Our brains do what they’re supposed to do. Our muscle memory kicks in, and our minds and bodies start disconnecting.

Try to listen to what your body and heart truly need. Slow down. Take note of any sensations and signals in your body. Instead of leading with your head, try to lead your day with your heart.

What will truly bring you joy? What will help you get out of your head and recharge your batteries? Find things that you love and will make your heart happy.

Tip #4: Be True to Yourself and What YOU Need 🦋

Again, it’s easy to look at checklists and be sucked into the vortex of the myriad of shiny and sparkly things to try.

Yes, you can derive inspiration and motivation from them. But remember, be true to yourself and do what is right for YOU.

A reset day routine is for you. To take care of yourself, show yourself some love, treat yourself, slow down, and reconnect with yourself.

Make sure you lead with your heart when making your decisions. You’re not worried about anyone else on this day, what anyone else tells you to do, or what you think you “should” do. Don’t let “should” ruin your reset day.

Slow down, take a few deep breaths, and listen to your body and heart. Don’t let distractions get in your way. Don’t let them turn your self-care day into a chore.

Also, if you had plans to do one thing, but halfway through it you realize it’s not making you feel better, don’t be afraid to change what you’re doing. A reset day should not be rigid. Try and strive for flexibility, fluidity, and compassion. Your head may try to tell you one thing, but your heart will tell you what you need.

Clean Your Space 🧹🧺

I recommend cleaning for a maximum of one hour. Long enough to get a few things done without doing too much. Your reset day should have some relaxation too. Setting a timer can be helpful.

Remember, be mindful and realistic. Choose something to help you feel better about your space without overwhelming yourself. If you need to rage clean, go for it. Like I said, I recommend only cleaning for an hour.

  • Declutter Your Space
  • Make Your Bed
  • Do the Dishes
  • Wipe Down the Kitchen Counters
  • Catch Up on Some Laundry
  • Dust

Also, put on some fun music, dance and sing, and be silly. Don’t be afraid to let loose and laugh at yourself a little.

Another thing I like to have on in the background while I’m cleaning is motivational cleaning videos on YouTube. A couple of my favorites are Lynn White and Alexandra Beuter. It can be motivating and a great way to get some feminine energy and feel like I’m hanging out with a friend.
